Left 4 Dead is the latest survival multiplayer FPS from Valve, makers of the Half Life series. It drops you in to situations high in infected zombies, with three other survivors. The zombies, like in the horror-movie 28 Times Later, are not the lumbering creatures of old, but lightening fast, and operate at you onsight. The very first time this happens to you in the game it leaves an impression.

The game starts at nighttime, as you and your team make an effort to arrive at the subway from a roof. As you enter the initial building, you can just see with your torch beam. We performed the Left 4 Lifeless demo with a single player, and so the remaining team was AI commanded. They appear quite powerful, though clearly it will likely be better with four humans.
